SCARBROUGH AND AFTERSHOCK TEAM FINISH 4TH AT MASON-DIXON MELTDOWN

The Aftershock Motorsports team went down to Concord, NC to see how they stacked up among other modified drivers outside of the familiar walls of Langley Speedway. What they discovered is something which they had believed all along. Not only could they compete with the best, but also the team IS one of the best!

The weekend began on Friday as the #30 team and 27 other modified teams pulled into Concord Motorsport Park for a full day of practice...off the bat the team felt very confident in their performance, being one of the fastest cars on the track.

As Saturday came around Joe and the #30 car continued to produce fast laps and the team was optimistic that the car could be a threat for the night's race.

As mandated by PASS, the #30 team along with the rest of the mods participated in three 10-lap heat races to determine the MDM lineup. Joe drew the 2nd heat race and managed to stay out of trouble and earned himself the 7th starting position for the main feature.

As the main event unfolded, the #30 team lived up to the strong times which were posted in practice, quickly moving into the top 5. Joe shortly became embattled for the third position as he, along with New Englander #44 Kurt Vigeant and #55 Billy Morris all fought for position.

As mid-race came and a few cautions later, the top six cars had broken off from the rest of the pack and were fighting amongst themselves for position. Joe had fended off Morris and Vigeant and was comfortably racing in 3rd position.

This comfort didn't last the night however, late in the race Billy Morris managed to pass Scarbrough as well as then-leader AJ Winstead and went on to become the eventual winner of the night. Then with only a handful of laps left, Vigeant managed to squeeze past Scarbrough for third, however the #30 car held on and on the last lap made a last-ditch effort to pass Vigeant but failed as the bright pink #44 modified connected with the #30 car and crossed the finish line by inches as the #30 mod had it's right side tires in the air as they crossed. Joe had finished 4th out of 26 cars.

Joe was also the highest finishing Langley regular of the race. #69 Rusty Wood, #6 Buster Horne, Jr., and #39 Toby Davis also competed in the race however all three of them were caught up in incidents through the race.

When it was all said and done, Joe can say that he ran a clean race, as well as an intelligent race. Concord is one of those tracks that have been notorious for stinging a lot of drivers as well as being one of the most difficult short tracks to compete at. The Aftershock team left that weekend knowing that they had accomplished what they had set out to do...with that feeling of knowing where they stand in the modified world, they enter into the offseason where they begin the cycle all over again, only except the next time around the other teams will know what to expect when they see the #30 and the new #93 modifieds roll out of the trailer.
